Experience. That’s what Calvin Abueva said after he delivered a monstrous 22-point, 10-rebound effort to lift Alaska to an 88-82 Game 1 overtime win against San Miguel.
“Nakaexperience na ako ng Finals eh. Pumasok sa akin yun kaya yun ang mindset ko, yung maglaro with best energy sa game,” he said.
The familiarity with the terrain and the feeling of winning in this stage has really benefitted Abueva in the Aces’ fightback, as they dug themselves from being down by 22 early.
“Ang ginagawa namin ngayon, lamang sila ng 22 points pero di kami gumive up kaya nakahabol kami,” he said.
The Beast also admitted that he was fueled by the early flagrant foul penalty 1 he got in the first quarter, saying, “Mas lalong nag-improve yung laro ko dun.”
“Nilabas ko yung gigil ko kaya nung second quarter, nakapag-cool down ako at gumanda yung laro ko.”
But one win doesn’t really mean much, and Abueva knows that the job still isn’t over for the Aces.
“Di pa tapos ‘to. Marami pang game na dadaanan at gagawin kaya focus lang at stay humble,” he said.
“Ito na yung Finals kaya kailangan mo na ibuhos ang lahat.” (RL)
