BLAKELY BACK
For the first time in his PBA career, Marqus Blakely will have odds stacked against him in the coming 2015 Commissioner’s Cup.
Playing as a stand-in import for Purefoods, Blakely at 6-5 would be playing against bigger reinforcements this conference as the Hotshots await the arrival of Daniel Orton.
But the former Best Import awardee said that those disadvantages aren’t supposed to be used as an excuse.
“Being undersized isn’t really a disadvantage. Running the floor, it would be an advantage on our team whereas other teams will have a 6-foot-9 post man. It’ll be harder for them to go up and down the floor,” he said. “That’s something that we’re working on. We’re changing our style a little bit just to be a little quicker.”
Blakely also said that compared to the other times he has suited up for head coach Tim Cone, “There’s gonna be no expectations.
“We’ll continue working hard to be better everyday,” he said. “We have to give ourselves an opportunity to get to the championship.”
But that doesn’t mean they are going to settle for anything less.
“You can’t win them all. It kind of brings us back to square one. I guess we realized what we did. And how hard it was to do it, to get back to that status what we had to do.” (RL)
