CJ Leslie had a monstrous debut for GlobalPort, towing the Batang Pier to a 100-89 victory over Kia Tuesday to start their Commissioner’s Cup campaign on the right foot.

“It’s good. I felt we did a good job. We did the right plays and it was a good first night for us,” the 6-foot-9 Leslie said.

Tallying 33 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks, Leslie paced the squad in the morale-boosting first win.

FEATURED STORIES

It was like the locals have already been playing with Leslie for quite a time, which definitely isn’t the case.

“Honeymoon stage pa kami ng import. Yung locals wala akong problema kasi December 26 pa lang, nagpa-practice na kami. Dumating sya last Saturday lang so thankful ako na nagdeliver sya,” said GlobalPort coach Eric Gonzales.

Leslie, for his part, bared that he’s still familiarizing with the environment, but the longer he’s here, the more he feels at home.

“When I first got here, it was a little rough on me, but I’m adjusting good now. It’s still a struggle but I’m getting used to it,” he said.

And as he continues to bond with his teammates, Leslie guaranteed that there are still brighter days ahead for him and the Batang Pier crew.

“My head was on the right place coming here,” he said. “I always try to just be better.” (RL)
