STAYING THE COURSE
For coach Norman Black, Meralco’s 2-0 start may just point to a promising conference.
“We were 7-6 in the Philippine Cup, so that’s a big improvement from any Meralco team in the past. I was quite pleased with the improvement. I’m just hoping that they continue to improve,” he said.
Gutting out wins against Ginebra and Kia in their first two Commissioner’s Cup games, Black credits reinforcement Josh Davis for willingly filling in the role the Bolts badly needed in the past conferences, a steady inside presence.
“We just wanted to recruit an import which could help us in our needs, which were defensive rebounding and protecting the rim. Those are the things that we thought of as our weaknesses,” the Grand Slam-winning coach said.
“We’re not a very big team so we wanted a guy that could be very energetic particularly in the paint to make sure we get the rebounds and we can run, and to help us in our interior defense. And that’s what we saw with Josh Davis.”
With the team slowly meshing with the versatile Davis, Black just said that he wants the Bolts to keep their composure and stay the course.
“We’ll just try to win as many games as possible and see where it takes us,” he said. (RL)
