Coach-Boyet-Fernandez-(02-02-15)_header

NLEX started the year with a trip to Dubai, where the Road Warriors competed in the 26th Dubai International Basketball Championship. They failed to make it to the semifinals of the tough multi-nation tournament, but NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez believes the trip did his charges a lot of good in preparation for the Commissioner’s Cup hardcourt wars.

“We have a positive outlook on that. We developed our camaraderie as a team and yung bonding, medyo maganda kasi nagkakilala yung mga players,” he said.

Fernandez also mentioned that the invitational tournament allowed the club to see their mistakes and help them address those issues for the second conference.

“In the Dubai tournament, we learned so much. Di pa rin kami natututo dun sa mga mali namin ng first conference, umulit-ulit lang sa Dubai so at least, confirmation yun na ito yung kulang namin. Marami kaming nalaman at marami pa kaming dapat baguhin to make this team a much better team,” he said.

And as they enlist NBA veteran Al Thornton to their fold, Fernandez is just putting his team’s premium on constant improvement.

“Day-to-day pa rin yung aming sitwasyon as we improve everyday. Yung nangyari sa amin sa All-Filipino at sa Dubai, marami kaming natutunan and hopefully, madevelop namin yung team na ito to a much better team,” he said. “It would be a tough task for us but we really want to improve from where we placed last conference.” (RL)
