For the first time in quite a while, Mark Caguioa had a chance to give Ginebra fans a glimpse of his winning smile.

One happy guy he was after the  Kings scored their first win in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday.

“Medyo matagal na ring di ganito,” Caguioa said.

“Minsan sa mga pagkatalo namin, laging yun ang worry ko eh, kung kaya ba namin ipakita yung ginagawa namin sa practice. Ngayon, medyo kumpyansa kami kasi maganda yung depensa at opensa namin.”

That has always been the pitfall for this Ginebra squad since coach Ato Agustin took over the head coaching duties anew.

“I think kung madadala namin yung laro namin sa practice to the game, maganda ang mangyayari eh. Wala kaming problema sa practices, pero pag nasa game na, bumababa yung intensity namin,” Caguioa said.

To exemplify his point, the former league MVP noted their start, where they blasted the Beermen early and took a sizeable lead they kept until the end.

“Ang nangyayari kasi, hinihintay naming matambakan kami before kami bumalik,” he said, relating to that final three minutes of their game against Barako Bull. “Now, we started out like that, we had our defensive mentality and just let our offense come at nagawa namin yun nung first quarter.”

Now the Spark hopes the breakthrough win signals the start of Ginebra’s rise back to the top of the leaderboard.

“Nakita na namin na kaya naming gawin eh. Yun ang malaking factor. Napatunayan namin na we could play defense on that pace,” said Caguioa. (RL)
