TIME TO GET BACK ON TRACK
After two games, GlobalPort has shown that it made the right decision in tapping the services of Calvin Warner.
Though they lost his debut game against Meralco on a Josh Davis game-winner, the 34-year-old Warner then tallied 23 points and 20 rebounds in his second game in a Batang Pier uniform with a 99-81 win over Barako Bull on Wednesday.
“His maturity being a veteran import helps us in our immaturity. Yun ang malaking bagay,” said GlobalPort intermin head coach Eric Gonzales, not minding the four inches they gave up when they swapped CJ Leslie for Warner.
“For now, we need an inside presence that is mature (and) that will help the team get better,” he said.
Blackwater, on the other hand, has made a bold move in sticking with Marcus Douthit for the rest of the conference.
Initially a reliever for injured reinforcement Chris Charles, Douthit has been a rock for the Elite and even gave them their first franchise win in the PBA at the expense of Philippine Cup champ San Miguel Beer. He is averaging 19.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.7 blocks for Blackwater, enough to convince the squad to keep him for the rest of the second conference.
And on Sunday, these two teams which has had different fortunes when it comes to their imports take on each other at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Game time is at 3 p.m.
GlobalPort wants to continue its roll and improve its 3-3 standing, in the hope of securing a quarterfinals spot.
Blackwater, meanwhile, just wants to keep in step with fellow expansion team Kia and get its second win as it currently sports a 1-4 slate. (RL)
