5TH SHOOTOUT TITLE IN MACAPAGAL’S CROSSHAIRS
Gunning for an unprecedented fifth title, Mark Macapagal is definitely on a high coming to the Three-Point Shootout on Friday.
But the Meralco sharpshooter said that if there’s something he learned over the years of competing in this event, it is that it is still anybody’s ballgame.
“Depende na yan sa araw ng event. Kung maganda ang gising, yun ang malaki ang chance na manalo,” he said.
Scouting this year’s field, Macapagal admits that he’s bracing for a tough cast of characters, all aching to unseat him from his throne.
“Malakas yung mga maglalaro eh. Si Jimmy (Alapag) syempre galing sa bakasyon, so malaki yung chance na magawa nya kasi fresh sya. Pero honestly, lahat naman sila malaki ang chance eh,” the 35-year-old gunner said.
But experience, Macapagal believes, will be a big boost in his bid for his fifth Three-Point Shootout trophy.
“Siguro ang masasabi lang natin is mas confident tayo kasi nagawa ko na dati. Kumbaga, I have nothing to lose na eh,” he said.
Winning the crown twice with Powerade back in 2010 and 2011, Macapagal went on to be the Three-Point King with different teams after that, completing the three-peat with Meralco in 2012, before reclaiming his crown last year with GlobalPort.
And he’s wishing that he can repeat again wearing the Bolts uniform this time in Palawan.
“Sabi nga ni Sol Mercado, try to win it with different teams,” Macapagal said. “Sana ngayon, sabi nga nila, sana magtuloy yung regla.” (RL)
