ROMEO ALL-STAR 3-POINT SHOOTOUT KING
When you’re hot, you are hot.
On Friday, Terrence Romeo proved that all he needed was to get his wheels going to snatch the 2015 PBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout title at the standing-room-only Puerto Princesa Coliseum in Palawan.
Having a shaky start in his first rack, the sophomore said, “Pinilit ko lang ma-maintain yung focus ko para wag ako ma-pressure.”
For this competition, Romeo, the leading local scorer in the Commissioner’s Cup, changed his approach to his form and turned his jumpers to set shots.
“Iniba ko yung tira ko to set shots para mas madali kong makuha yung rhythm ko,” Romeo said.
And he did, heating up in the left wing before draining all of the balls in the right wing to edge James Yap and JC Intal, who had 14 and 11 points in the Finals respectively.
“Kinakabahan talaga ako bago pa mag-start yung Finals,” Romeo bared, as he went on to equalize the 18 points he posted in the elimination round.
But more than anything, his approach to the contest worked in his favor en route to him winning the Three-Point Shootout.
“Inisip ko lang lagi na magwa-warmup ako sa simula para pagdating sa huli, gamay ko na yung tira ko,” Romeo said, as he reaped the rewards of him shooting 800 or more attempts per day.
The Batang Pier guard also denied Mark Macapagal his unprecedented fifth title in the process, as the Bolts forward could only muster 16 points in the eliminations before running out of time.
“Proud lang din ako sa sarili ko na na-accomplish ko ‘to,” added Romeo. (RL)
