CASTRO-ALAPAG DUEL TO SPICE UP ALL-STAR GAME
During the latter part of Jimmy Alapag’s career, it was Jayson Castro who ferociously battled him in the Talk ‘N Text practices at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.
“Maganda yung laban nila. Kitang kita mo yung competition nung dalawa,” said teammate Ranidel de Ocampo.
And on Sunday at the All-Star Game, in Alapag’s swan song from active competition, the two guards will have a chance to show the public their hardcourt skirmishes.
“Sobrang excited ko kasi never pa kami nagkalaban sa real game since nag-PBA ako,” said Castro.
The Blur, representing the North All-Stars, said that even though it would be Alapag’s jersey retirement, he won’t be giving the Mighty Mouse any free passes come game time.
“Knowing Jimmy, sobrang competitive nya eh. Gusto nya lagi talagang game eh, even in our practice. Yun ang last game nya, so kailangan ko talagang galingan. Wala akong pabor na ibibigay sa kanya,” said Castro.
And this early, Castro is pumped up for the upcoming duel.
“Magiging advantage ko yung speed. Lagi nya yun sinasabi sa akin. But I’m sure na macha-challenge din yun kasi first time nga naming magkakalaban,” he said.
De Ocampo, meanwhile, is calling it close, saying, “Masakit ang likod ni Jayson eh. Sana pagdating ng All-Star, ok na sya. Kaya lang si Jimmy, matagal na ring walang laro eh. Magiging maganda yung matchup na ‘to.” (RL)
