JARENCIO BACK IN BATANG PIER SADDLE
He’s back.
Coach Pido Jarencio hopes to make it sweeter the second time around with his re-appointment as GlobalPort head coach starting the 2015 Governors’ Cup.
The former UST Growling Tigers bench tactician, who was first installed as the head coach back in the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup, only had two wins to his name in his first two conferences with the Batang Pier.
Jarencio fared better in the 2015 Philippine Cup, where he was able to steer the franchise to a 4-5 record with the killer three-guard combo of Alex Cabagnot, Terrence Romeo, and number one pick Stanley Pringle, before being replaced by coach Eric Gonzales.
Staying on as team consultant, the outspoken mentor watched as Gonzales completed the first conference where the Batang Pier got booted out by Barangay Ginebra in the quarters. GlobalPort then failed to qualify for the playoffs in the Commissioner’s Cup with its 4-7 record.
Jarencio goes back to the lead role for the Batang Pier, with Gonzales being his lead deputy, as GlobalPort prepares for a Governors’ Cup where they enjoy no height restriction for the reinforcement they will tap.
The Batang Pier resume their practice after the Holy Week. Up for discussion is the option of hiring the services of an Asian import. (RL)
