SANCHIR TUNGALAG

Mongolian combo-guard Sanchir Tungalag has earned his place in Mongolian sports history. And he’s hoping to earn a spot in PBA annals as well.

Sanchir is the first native Mongolian to play in a foreign basketball league, and the 26-year-old is looking forward to show his wares in front of Filipino basketball fans.

“Since I’m here in the Philippines, I have to adapt to the Philippine style of play. I have to play the same here,” he said through his interpreter as he watched Game 5 of the Talk ‘N Text and Rain or Shine Finals.

Playing the two and three positions, Sanchir said that he’s been blending well with his Barangay Ginebra San Miguel teammates in his short stay here in the country.

“So far, we’re having good practices. I’ve been getting along well with my teammates through the universal language of basketball,” he said.

Though he’s not promising a championship to the legions of Ginebra fans this early, the 6-foot-3 Sanchir vowed that he’ll give his all and possibly, end the eight-year title drought for Ginebra.

“I’m the import so it is expected of me to help the team win and I will do my best to win games,” he said. “I will try to contribute my best for the team to win games.” (RL)
