IRAN’S KOOCHOIE FOR MERALCO
After failing to land Mehdi Kamrani, Meralco has tapped another Iranian guard in Benny Koochoie as its Asian import for the Governors’ Cup.
The 29-year-old is a veteran of the Iranian Super League and had a short stint with the Jiangsu Nangang Dragons in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Koochoie, who last suited up for Sahrdari Gorgan in Iran, arrived to the country on Wednesday and is expected to join the Bolts’ practice on Thursday.
The 6-foot-3 skipper will be paired with well-travelled veteran Andre Emmett, who was hailed as 2015 NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP, in the Meralco fray.
The Bolts’ original plan of acquiring Kamrani, who many consider as the best point guard in the region, took a big hit after the Iranian playmaker opted to pass the opportunity to play in the PBA, citing his wife’s pregnancy. (RL)
