MERCADO JUMPS TO BARANGAY GINEBRA FOR YEO
Sol Mercado continues season carousel as the veteran guard now finds himself at Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
Barako Bull will get another slasher in Joseph Yeo in return in the one-on-one trade approved by the Office of the Commissioner Monday afternoon.
Mercado could be the final piece in newly-appointed head coach Frankie Lim’s roster for the season ending Governors’ Cup. Ginebra will be Mercado’s fourth team this season after starting the year with San Miguel, before jumping to GlobalPort and then later to Barako Bull.
Ginebra will also be the sixth PBA team for the 30-year-old, who averaged 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists for the Energy in the recent Commissioner’s Cup.
The Sol Train’s entry to the Gin Kings’ fold could reinvigorate a struggling Ginebra backcourt which has LA Tenorio, Mark Caguioa, Jayjay Helterbrand, and Emman Monfort.
Yeo, meanwhile, will also join his sixth team after going from Coca Cola, Sta. Lucia, San Miguel, Air21, and Ginebra since being drafted as the third pick in the 2006 Draft.
He normed 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in his 20.2 minutes on the floor for Ginebra the past conference. (RL)
