COMPTON ALL PRAISES FOR TRAVIS
Porched at the top of the standings after fending off their first two challenges, Alaska coach Alex Compton could only heap great praises on his import Romeo Travis.
With Alaska opting to field a single reinforcement in the Governors’ Cup, the hardworking Travis sure is making the Aces management look like geniuses in staying with their core and just integrating a new recruit into their fold.
“I’m very happy with Romeo’s play,” said Compton.
And on Friday, Travis again delivered a stellar outing, posting 34 points on 13-of-20 shooting, to go with 16 rebounds as Alaska tripped Ginebra, 108-99.
The game was a stark contrast from that Alaska had against Blackwater where an all-out attack from the whole team allowed them to nab the win.
And Compton knows that finding the right balance and Travis knowing when to be aggressive are keys in the Aces’ run this conference.
“I think there will be games where we need Romeo to make the right passes because he’s being doubled. And there will be games where we need him to take the shots,” he said. “Today, we really had a nice balance with that.”
Though he’s not really known as a take-charge guy, Travis sure made believers with his performance.
And Compton, the man he really needed to impress, sure is one now.
“He’s really strong. He’s like a general sa loob sa depensa, nakikita nya lahat at madaldal din. Yun ang gusto mo as a coach, your guys talking and helping guys be at the right spots,” he said. “I think Romeo had a tremendous game and he carried us when we needed him.” (RL)
