LOCKED IN & FOCUSED
Experiencing a dip in production in Meralco’s game against San Miguel Beer, Andre Emmett could only care less as he goes home happy after getting the W.
“Offensively, I didn’t have to score as many points. But my team stepped up. Everybody contributed, from the second string, third string, and the main guys, everybody played well together. Today was a total team victory,” he said.
Scoring 41 in his first time out, Emmett finished with only 31 in the game, but eight of those came in the pivotal overtime period, timely all-important points in the Bolts’ 106-95 win over the Beermen.
And Emmett credited the whole team for the turnaround, especially in their defensive stance against the feisty San Miguel squad.
“We made some adjustments in the defensive end. We played tough and we kept fighting,” he said. “Today, we were totally focused for 53 minutes. We locked in and was focused the whole game and we executed.”
One of those guys he gave credit to was Gary David, who bucked his poor shooting in the first game to finish with 23 points.
“I love him. Gary, I call him sniper. Whenever he shoots, I think it’s going in,” said Emmett.
And that trust is what coach Norman Black expects from him as they hope to nail more wins this Governors’ Cup.
“Everyday, he tells us to keep fighting, keep trusting each other,” Emmett said. “Today, we did. We came through for one another.” (RL)
