Pressured to deliver, NLEX finally got its first win after three tries. And at the forefront of that victorious stand against Meralco was Kwame Alexander.

The dread-locked reinforcement finally displayed his wares as he posted 44 points and hauled down 11 rebounds in anchoring the Road Warriors to a 91-84 win over the Bolts.

For the 6-foot-4 Alexander, the victory allowed him to finally heave a sigh of relief.

“It feels good. It kind of relieves some of the pressure. Hopefully, we can keep this streak going,” he said.

Coming to the country just two days before his first game, Alexander admitted that the first two outings were a struggle for him as he slowly acclimated himself to the Philippine basketball setting.

“The first two games was kind of a trial run to get used to the style of play. Even though we should’ve got a win from those two, that’s basketball for you. You win some, you lose some, but hopefully, things will get better as the season goes,” he said.

And for Alexander, he hopes that the morale-boosting win for NLEX would be the start of a promising run, and will convince a lot of the Road Warriors’ nay-sayers that this team really can compete.

He said, “This win makes me look good, the team look good, and we would start getting the respect from our opponents. It’s a pretty good feeling, really.” (RL)
