BEST IS YET TO COME
Coming off an eight-day break, Talk ‘N Text capitalized on the opportunity to forge a stronger bond as a team. And the early returns are promising, as the Tropang Texters mauled NLEX, 108-89, on Tuesday.
American reinforcement Steffphon Pettigrew admitted that the long layoff helped the team, saying, “The break was really good because we got lots of practices where we got our rhythm. We started clicking together.”
Pettigrew also showed why he deserved his place among the Commissioner’s Cup champs, scattering 26 points and hauling down seven rebounds in the victory.
But more than anything, Pettigrew believes that at 3-1, Talk ‘N Text can sustain its run in its following games as their injured cogs like Ranidel De Ocampo and Jayson Castro made their much-awaited return in their last two games.
“Having Del and Jayson back, we’re having a lot of people who can help. The opponents have got to respect our shooters and we’re also getting our rhythm, finding the open shots, and we’re also running to some easy shots on the break,” he said. “It makes our job easier.”
And Pettigrew is optimistic that the best is still yet to come for Talk ‘N Text as it waits for the return of guys like Kevin Alas and Aaron Aban to active duty.
“We can be very dangerous,” he said. “We still got guys out so once they come in, we’ll have more depth in the bench that when the starting five comes out, the second five could be just as dangerous.” (RL)
