San Miguel Beer continues to sizzle.

The Beermen made it six in a row, clipping NLEX, 96-92,  in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday.

The win gave San Miguel a 6-2 slate and fortified its bid for a top four finish in the single-round elims and a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarters.

It wasn’t an easy victory for the Beermen though. They fell behind 42-49 early in the third period before AZ Reid and Marcio Lassiter presided over a big tear that gave San Miguel a 73-61 bubble.

The Road Warriors refused to give up the fight and got to within 84-86 with 3:09 remaining.

Reid then took over, firing nine straight points — two triples and a three-point play — to put the game away.

“This is a good win for us because our target is getting to the top 4, maybe yung isang paa namin nasa top for na but still not sure because everyone’s trying to win,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

Reid finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Marcio Lassiter added 21 markers while June Mar Fajardo also struck hard with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Michael Madanly had 24 points to lead NLEX, which dropped to 2-5, just a rung above tailender Blackwater’s 1-6. (JL)
