CLASH OF CHAMPS
It will be champion versus champion on Tuesday as the Philippine Cup titlists face the Commissioner’s Cup kings Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
San Miguel Beer tests the mettle of skidding Talk ‘N Text in hopes of nabbing its seventh straight victory in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Beermen’s early struggles are long forgotten as they racked up six straight conquests, with their latest coming in the form of a 96-92 win over NLEX on Friday.
Coach Leo Austria was obviously relieved that San Miguel had a reversal of fortunes after opening the conference with consecutive setbacks and he has reminded his boys to keep on pushing in the squad’s quest for a top four finish.
“Di ko iniisip ang winning streak eh. Basta ang iniisip namin one game at a time,” Austria said.
And this tussle with the Tropang Texters bring big implications in the Beermen’s quarterfinal hopes, as a seventh win could already secure them a twice-to-beat edge.
“Every game is very important for us. I think kung mananalo kami against Talk ‘N Text makukuha na namin yung slot dun sa top four. That’s the first goal eh,” Austria said. “Maganda yung nangyayari dito sa amin.”
Talk ‘N Text, however, is also motivated to end its own skid, an uncharacteristic three-game losing streak which sent the team down to 3-4, and to the lower half of the standings.
