MONSTER OFF THE BOARDS
GlobalPort flew in Jarrid Famous for one thing: to beef up the Batang Pier’s interior.
And on Sunday, the 6-foot-11 import delivered more than what was expected, turning in a 30-30 game in GlobalPort’s 102-94 victory over Kia.
Famous had 30 points and 37 rebounds in the win, as he came away with the third-most rebounds in a game in PBA history and the most boards in the last 30 years since Ginebra’s Michael Hackett hauled down 45 rebounds in the 1985 Reinforced Conference.
“My niche is rebounding – that’s what I like to do, that’s what I love to do,” said the 26-year-old big man. “I feel like every rebound is mine so every time I just want to go out there and just grab them all.”
Admitting that the 37 boards beat his personal record of 25, Famous said that it’s just the way the ball bounced on Sunday which allowed him to grab those misses.
“I just try to get every single one and today I was lucky that some fell my way and I was able to grab a bunch of them,” he said.
And Famous wants that go-getting mentality to rub off on his teammates, as GlobalPort guns for a top four finish in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup elims.
“We’re improving. We’re a young team and if we play with energy we can compete out there and play against anybody,” he said. (RL)
