GREAT FEELING, BUT TOUGHER GRIND BEGINS
GlobalPort continued to make its mark in the franchise annals.
Winning their team-best seventh win, the Batang Pier have secured their first-ever twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
And at the forefront of that conquest?
Jarrid Famous, who recorded 34 points, 26 rebounds and three assists in the 117-104 overtime win.
“It’s a great feeling,” said Famous. “When I came here, the organization said they’ve never been in the semifinals and they want to get there, they thought I was the guy to help them do it.”
Famous continued, “It feels good that they believed in me, and saw what I can bring to the table. We still got a long way to go but it’s a great feeling to be in the top four.”
A balik-import, Famous knows that the level of play also goes up in the playoffs, and he’s ready for the tougher grind.
“I expect teams to be more physical, more paying attention to detail. Everybody wants to win so every one will give their all. Mentally and physically, just go there and have fun,” he said.
And Famous doesn’t want the incentive to go into the Batang Pier’s heas, but rather, go for the kill if the opportunity presents itself.
“Twice-to-beat advantage is great, but at the end of the day, you have to go out there and play basketball. That doesn’t mean that we’re gonna win. I don’t want us to go lackadaisical thinking we have the twice-to-beat and we’re gonna win. It doesn’t work that way,” he said.
“We have to execute, play hard, and do the little things. We have to focus, play strong, and act like we’re the team that don’t have the twice-to-beat advantage.” (RL)
