Blackwater rookie Brian Heruela wound up No. 1 in the business of playmaking, Barako Bull’s Chico Lanete emerged top in steals while Junemar Fajardo embellished his MVP season with top honors in rebounds and blocks.

Curiously, Heruela and Fajardo, teammates at the University of Cebu in their collegiate days, were also among those leading error-prone players in the just-concluded PBA Season 40.

Heruela narrowly beat Jayson Castro for top assists honors with an average of 5.231 against the Talk n Text star’s 5.125.

Finishing right behind the top two were Alex Cabagnot (4.7), LA Revilla (4.1), Jonas Villanueva (3.94), Stanley Pringle (3.93), LA Tenorio (3.86), Sol Mercado (3.84), Joseph Yeo (3.6) and Paul Lee (3.2).

FEATURED STORIES

The battle for steals citation was also tight with Lanete sneaking on top with 1.97, followed by Pringle with 1.48, Revilla 1.469, Heruela 1.462, Tenorio 1.460, Chris Ross 1.426, Villanueva 1.333, Virgil Buensuceso 1.2, Castro 1.18 and Mark Barroca 1.156.

Ross had been the league’s steal kingpin in the last four years. He has a career average of 1.55, logging as many as 2.0 a game during his time with Meralco in 2010-11.

Fajardo, meanwhile, led five players who averaged more than one block a game.

The SMB behemoth swatted away 1.7 shots a game, beating Japeth Aguilar (1.485) for No. 1 spot. Cliff Hodge normed 1.375 at third followed by Arwind Santos (1.148) and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser (1.060).

Players with most number of errors were Castro (2.583), Heruela (2.539), Fajardo (2.519), Calvin Abueva (2.474), Terrence Romeo (2.229), Asi Taulava (2.222), Lanete (2.206), Pringle (2.194) and Reil Cervantes (2.138). (SB)
