PBA Draft Focus: For Sumang, PBA not just a dream but chance to help family
For Roi Sumang, the 2015 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft is not just a new chapter in his basketball career. It’s also his chance to help his family financially.
“Siguro yung biggest reason ng pagpasok ko sa draft ay yung family. Lumalaki na yung mga kapatid ko at kailangan ko na tumulong sa family ko,” the former UE Red Warrior said.
(Maybe my biggest reason for entering the draft is my family. My siblings are already growing and I need to help my family.)
That’s why for Sumang, he really took the two-day 2015 Gatorade Draft Combine by heart, though he still believes he could’ve showed more.
“Pare-parehas lang naman kaming mga guards eh. Sa akin, ginawa ko lang yung best ko sa two days ng Combine,” he said.
(We guards, we’re all the same. For me, I just did my best in the two days of the Combine.)
As much as Sumang is doing this for his family, he also wishes to be playing alongside a familiar face – fellow Tondo baller Paul Lee.
“Ang gusto ko talaga Rain or Shine dahil kay Paul Lee kasi pareho kaming tiga-Tondo eh (I really want to go to Rain or Shine because of Paul Lee because we’re both from Tondo.),” he said.
