Forrester eager to prove himself at Barako Bull
James Forrester is banking on his experience playing for Barangay Ginebra in hopes to finally get his PBA career going with Barako Bull.
Forrester has failed to live up to the expectations as a fourth overall pick in the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft but he’s determined to put those first couple of years behind and have a fresh start.
“This is my third year now so I guess that experience alone can help me with this year,” said Forrester after Barako Bull’s blowout loss to NLEX in a tuneup game. “I just have to be mentally tougher.”
“I think everybody knows that it hasn’t been the most successful first two years in the league after so much expectations and with all that going at the back of my mind, I just have to keep on going, doing what I do and believing in myself and that’s the biggest thing, that’s the key — to have confidence in myself.”
Ginebra picked the former Arellano University star ahead of the likes of Terrence Romeo, RR Garcia, Justin Melton and more who have turned out to have a better first two years in the league so far than Forrester.
While the Kings had given up on him, Forrester never lost confidence in himself.
And if anything, Forrester has been using his move to Barako Bull as an opportunity to prove himself.
“I feel that there’s a monkey on my back and I feel like it’s a clear slate by starting the season with Barako,” he said. “Just building on my confidence and going back to the player I know I am and go back to the player that people have seen before in the D-League and in college.”
