PBA to donate proceeds of season opener to ‘Lando’ victims
The Philippine Basketball Association will donate proceeds of its season opener on Wednesday to the victims of Typhoon “Lando.”
“Proceeds of our season opener will be donated to the victims of Lando,” said PBA chair Robert Non on Monday shortly after a special board meeting was held to iron out details of the postponed opening ceremonies.
“We in the PBA feel for our countrymen who have been affected by the storm. On this note I would like to encourage our basketball fans to come and watch our season opener on Wednesday. You will not just enjoy the games, you will also be helping our kababayans in need,” Non said.
The opening ceremonies is scheduled at 5 p.m. followed by a lone game between the Star Hotshots and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 7 p.m.
Originally scheduled last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the season opener was suspended due to bad weather.
It will instead be held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
“Wednesday’s opener will be something different. Because everyone – from league officials to the players down to the fans – will come there with a purpose and that is to help,” Non said.
Tickets bought on Sunday will not be honored at Mall of Asia Arena but ticket holders can refund them at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
