Abueva says Aces came out too eager vs Elite
Alaska struggled to pull away from Blackwater Friday night.
Calvin Abueva, the Aces’ energetic forward, admitted that they came out too eager against a determined Elite side.
It was only when Alaska settled down in the second half it was able to gain distance from Blackwater, which is seeking to start the new season on a good note.
“Di naman ganun kadali kalaban ang mga teams eh. May time na mahihirapan ka, may time na madadalian ka. Itong game na to, talagang mahirap kasi gigil lahat. Kumalma lang kami nung second half at dun kami nakalayo,” he said, following the Aces’ 87-79 win against the Elite for their second win in the 2016 Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup.
(Teams right now are very tough. There will be times where we’ll struggle and times where we’ll have it easy. This game, it was really hard because everyone was too eager. We calmed down in the second half where we were able to pull away.)
Down the stretch, it was the likes of Vic Manuel, Chris Banchero and JVee Casio who took over for the Aces and carried them to their second victory.
“Siguro bad start lang kami, pero yung iba nag-step up. Yun ang maganda,” he said.
(Maybe we had a bad start. But other stepped up, that’s the good thing about it.)
