Ahead of Ginebra match, Fajardo says Beermen need to improve on ball movement
June Mar Fajardo got a good workout in the paint Wednesday when he tussled with a tough JP Erram when San Miguel met Blackwater at Philsports Arena.
Though the undersized Elite center did hold his own against Fajardo, the two-time MVP still reigned supreme in the end, registering 20 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks in the 93-83 Beermen win.
It was a complete contrast to performance of Fajardo, who continues to recuperate from his plantar fasciitis injury through aqua therapy every other day, in San Miguel’s 99-84 defeat to Rain or Shine.
And it also served as some sort of preparation for Fajardo for his upcoming duel with Greg Slaughter this weekend.
“May preparation naman kami (against Ginebra),” he said, brushing off the rivalry everyone is pushing for.
More than anything, Fajardo is saying that no team should be looked at as an afterthought this conference, saying, “Lahat ng teams ngayon maganda kasi malakas. Kami, kailangan lang di basta mag-relax. Kahit di ganun kalakas yung team, kaya nilang mag-improve.”
That also goes for the reigning Philippine Cup champ who are eyeing a repeat as the Philippine Cup champions.
“Kami rin kailangan ganun, di dapat mag-depend lang sa individual talent and we have to play as a team,” he said, pointing out the areas of improvement San Miguel still has to ponder on.
“Mas kailangan namin iimprove yung extra passes namin. May three days pa naman kami para mag-prepare. Kailangan namin itaas pa yung intensity,” said Fajardo.
San Miguel goes up against Ginebra on Sunday at Philsports Arena.
