Star coach Jason Webb took full responsibility of his team’s three-game slide, saying that he hasn’t been doing a fast enough job getting everyone on board with the new system.

“I just got to do a better job,” he said on the heels of Star’s 107-102 defeat to Alaska on Tuesday.

“In the end, we’re turning the ball too much. I got to do a better job of preparing the guys, of getting them ready. You can have that excuse that there’s a new system, but at the end of the day, I’m the coach and I have to find a way to speed up the process, and I’m willing to take that responsibility.”

The Hotshots turned the ball over 25 times on their last loss, compounding a woeful average of 19.6 turnovers per outing, which is the third-worst in the league so far.

And one of those 25 came at a crucial stretch, with James Yap losing the handle in an inbound play in the final 7.4 seconds as the Hotshots were attempting to close in or tie the game at 105. The ball eventyuall went to the hands of Dondon Hontiveros, who then passed the ball for Cyrus Baguio for the clincher.

“We had a play set up, and I should’ve communicated with the players better. However it goes, every time it’s a loss, it’s the coach’s fault and I take full responsibility,” Webb said. “Whatever went wrong, I have to get my guys to a better situation. I got get them an easier shot.”

At 2-5, Star is still looking for answers to salvage its campaign midway through the conference. But Webb is not dwelling on any excuses and would rather focus on finding the solution to get them out of the slump.

“I’m not that kind of person who will use an excuse. Growing pains kami, but we want to win. We’re not content for having an excuse for losing. It’s a loss and when you lose, may dahilan kung bakit kayo natalo,” he said.

But things won’t get any easier for the Hotshots, as San Miguel is next on their schedule on Saturday.

However, Webb remains defiant, and said, “To me, number one and number 12, they all can beat you and all of them, you can beat. You just have to find a perfect gameplan to win against them.”
