PBA players put smile on kids’ faces in heartwarming visit to cancer patients
Players from Ginebra and Blackwater visited 30 cancer patients on Saturday for an Alagang PBA outreach program at Angeles University Foundation Medical Center in Pampanga.
Spending time a few hours away from basketball, the players mingled with patients from AUF’s Kids Cancervive department.
“It’s cool and it’s really a humbling experience for us,” said Ginebra playmaker Sol Mercado.
“To put a smile on these kids’ faces, you just can’t help yourself to feel blessed and realize how fortunate you are being healthy.”
“Yung mga bata doon, talagang lumalaban sila kahit may sakit sila. Yung buong team pinag-pray namin sila,” rookie Scottie Thompson added.
One guy who was really moved by the visit was big man Greg Slaughter, who had a heartwearming encounter with a little girl named Christine.
“She was four years old, a shy type but she was cute. I spent time with her and honestly, it was sad to see such kid dealing with brain tumor,” shared Slaughter.
“I hope we gave them a good day and someday, we can help them around. We just prayed to God and we hope it helps them.”
The PBA delegation is in Pampanga for a Petron Blaze Saturday Special road game.
