Defense carried Rain or Shine past Meralco, says Chan
When an also-ran Meralco was gearing for an upset, Rain or Shine turned to its defense to flip the script.
Rain or Shine held Meralco to 38 second half points while the Elasto Painters scored 55 points, 30 in the fourth quarter en route to a 97-87 win.

“It was our defense that sparked us, with it we were able to stop Meralco,” Jeff Chan said.
Chan scored 15 of his 24 points while Raymond Almazan rocked with 10 of his 21 points in the fourth.
For good measure, Chan used his offense to sink Meralco to a 1-10 record with a dagger three-pointer with less than a minute remaining that put Elasto Painters up 95-87.

“Our defense hit a snag in the first half and coach [Yeng Guiao] was telling us we weren’t doing the things we were supposed to do,” Chan said.
The victory improved Rain or Shine’s chances to snare the coveted top two spots entering the playoffs.
