It took only one game and everything fell for Rain or Shine.
All the Elasto Painters had to do was take care of a skidding NLEX side and they would’ve clinched the top seed and an outright semifinals berth.
Instead, they settled for the No.3 spot and will have to take the longer road towards a championship after a 111-106 loss to the Road Warriors.
“It was a big disappointment, but we just have to accept it and move forward, we made some mistakes, we paid for our mistakes,” Guiao said Saturday.
Guiao, though, still sees the positives despite the tough loss.
“Overall, if you look at the positive side, we’re still the number three seed, we still have a twice-to-beat advantage, and I think it’s good for us if we go for the long route.,” he said.
Rain or Shine had a 104-100 lead with more than three minutes remaining, but after Beau Belga’s sixth foul at the 2:35 mark of the fourth everything went downhill for the Elasto Painters.
NLEX closed the game on an 11-2 run with Mac Cardona’s steal on Jeff Chan and assist to a streaking Sean Anthony, who had a career-high of 37 points, made sure the Elasto Painters won’t be skipping the quarterfinals stage.
“There are just things that don’t turn out the way you plan them,” Guiao said. “If not for the lost opportunity today it would have still been a good conference, a good eliminations for us, we have to look at the bright side, maybe it’s also good for us not to get too much rest.”
