Mahindra blew a golden chance at a breakthrough after falling to Blackwater in a game for the last quarterfinals slot on Sunday.
Assistant coach Chito Victolero, though, doesn’t see the Enforcers’ 2016 Philippine Cup campaign as a lost cause despite missing out on a playoff spot.
“The important thing there is we need to learn from that experience. Although we’re in a rebuilding conference, we had games that we could’ve won,” Victolero said after the Enforcers bowed out of playoff contention following a 108-99 loss, their ninth against only two wins.
“It’s could also be a blessing for us because we also need need to experience games like this to improve and learn. We need to feel the pain first and I think that’s the positive thing about this,” Victolero added.
Victolero said it’s not only the players who gained a lot of experience this conference.
“We learned a lot, even the coaching staff. We need to stay together and keep on believing that we can have that positive outlook come next conference,” he said.
The Enforcers also drew a lot of positives this conference, with players emerging out of the shadows to deliver in the games.
“We know that Aldrech (Ramos) can have a double-double any given time, and Bradwyn Guinto stepped up even though he’s a rookie, Kyle Pascual also. A lot have stepped up for us. The only thing we need to do is to be consistent,” he said, while also commending Nino Canaleta, Karl Dehesa, Mike DiGregorio, and LA Revilla.
With the PH Cup over, Victolero reminded his wards to stay the course and hope for a better showing in the coming conferences.
“The positive thing is that it’s over. We just need to learn and continue to work hard.”
