Gilas buddies Abueva, Romeo ready for collision in PBA semis: ‘Laban talaga sa court’
Once Gilas rookies, Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo now find themselves at odds with each other as Alaska squares off against GlobalPort in one of the semifinal pairings in the 2016 Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup.
Both of the energetic stars admit that they both benefitted from playing along side each other in the national team and they were able to carry it over to the PBA season.
“Nung nasa Gilas kami, malaki yung impact namin sa isa’t isa. Lumabas doon yung kumpyansa namin kaya ganun yung laro namin,” said the energetic Aces forward.
The super scorer of GlobalPort, meanwhile, said, “Malaki yung pinagsamahan namin ni Calvin. Mananatili yung pagkakaibigan namin.”
But come January 4, the battle lines will be drawn as the Aces clash against the Batang Pier with the spotlight mainly on the two.
Romeo knows it’s going to be a dogfight given then both sides are hungry for the victory.
“Alam kong sa kanila, kailangan nilang manalo, at sa amin, kailangan din manalo kami. Laban talaga sa basketball court. Alam kong gagawin namin pareho yung best para manalo yung team namin.”
Abueva, meanwhile, made it clear that it would be all business once that whistle is blown.
“May konting batian pero ibang usapan na ito. Itong semis, talagang kailangan ipakita kung hanggang saan ka dito,” he said.
Romeo, who will make his semifinal debut, agrees, and said that their friendship will be placed on the side with a Finals slot hanging in the balance.
“Basta ako, kung ano ang mangyari sa game at sa series, excited ako. Pag nakaharap ko sya, gagawin ko lang yung trabaho ko,” he said.
