With Star streaking, PJ Simon looking to enjoy Holy Week break
Days are brighter again in the Star camp with the team currently on a three-game winning run.
It has been so good that one of the team’s main gunners in Peter June Simon can’t wait to enjoy a momentary break from the action as he pays his hometown in Makilala, North Cotabato a visit.
“Yung next game namin, next Sunday pa so medyo mahaba-haba pa,” Simon, who scored 13 points in a 127-100 blowout of a shorthanded GlobalPort side on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena, told INQUIRER.net.
The veteran guard shared that he always uses the team’s short breaks to go back to Mindanao, with the Holy Week giving him a brief respite away from the hustle and bustle of Manila this time out.
“Nagkataon din na Holy Week kaya bakasyon din. Every time na may break, umuuwi talaga ako,” he said.
And he sees the 10-day break as a chance, not just for him, but for the rest of the Hotshots to recuperate and brace for the tougher grind ahead.
“Itong break na to, malaking bagay kasi makaka-recover yung mga may injuries at hopefully, makapag-regroup din kami,” he said.
At 4-4 though, Star isn’t resting on its laurels and it is hoping to further improve its defense, a major factor in its last three conquests.
“Defense talaga. Doon kami nagkakaroon ng edge ngayon, and hopefully, mas maging okay yung defense namin,” he said.
It has to with a date with San Miguel Beer next for the Hotshots on Easter Sunday.
“Big game yung Sunday against San Miguel. Sa amin naman, lahat nagko-contribute kaya maganda din. Hindi lang isang tao, lahat kami may kumpyansa,” he said.
“Sana ganoon pa rin ang mangyari sa Sunday, na lahat ng ipasok ni coach, may kumpiyansa pag pinasok sa loob.”
