League-leading Meralco begins its tough three-game stretch against Mahindra on Sunday in the 2016 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off of a 16-day break, the Bolts are hoping to make one last push to finish in the top two at the end of the elimination round.

“To be honest, we’re doing well this conference because of our defense,” said Meralco head coach Norman Black, as his wards hope to improve their 6-2 slate. “Our offense has been spotty at best. But if push comes to shove, we’ll just focus on getting the ball to Arinze (Onuaku). We’ll basically run our offense through him.”

The Grand Slam-winning mentor is also optimistic that the long break served enough time for Meralco to adjust with the absence of Gary David in the lineup.

“I’m sure the other players will pitch in,” said Black.

The Bolts are coming from a 106-83 rout of Blackwater last March 18.

The game against the Enforcers, slated at 3 p.m., starts the Meralco gauntlet, with Alaska and Ginebra rounding out its schedule.

Mahindra is also on a high following its 102-94 victory over Alaska.

The Enforcers also see the tiff as an important one as they hope to book their first playoff appearance and improve their 4-4 record.
