It was a familiar sight to see: Alaska’s jersey number four with the surname Manuel written above.

But it’s not the usual name that we see along with it.

Aleli Jean Manuel has been trying her best to make a mark in the PBA Tag Heuer Women’s 3×3 Tournament, the same way her older brother Vic has done with the Aces.

Drawing inspiration from her older brother, she said that she personally picked the jersey number in his honor.

“Sadya yan. Proud ako sa kanya kaya number four ang kinuha ko,” the 23-year-old said.

Joining an Alaska squad which reached the semifinals last conference, Manuel is wishful that she can make a difference this time out, at the same time, showcase her talents in the halfcourt.

“Gusto ko ipakita na tulad kay kuya Vic, sa una di sya napapansin pero kinaya naman nya na ipakita yung kakayanan nya sa basketball,” she said.

And she has already gotten a huge boost from Vic, who has given her a lot of pointers to perform at the best of her capabilities whenever she takes the court.

“Sabi nya lang, wag lang akong kakabahan at pag open ako, itira lang. Pag kaya ko yung dumedepensa sa akin, laban lang. Pag kaya, pasok lang,” said Manuel. “Masaya naman kasi sinusuportahan nya talaga ako.”
