There’s no way Beau Belga and the rest of Rain or Shine’s players would let their head coach Yeng Guiao lose again.

Guiao had come up short in his reelection bid as first district Representative of Pampanga, losing the seat to Carmelo Lazatin II.

With that in mind, the Elasto Painters drew extra motivation to win Game 3 and the Commissioner’s Cup championship.

“Meron siyempre,” said Belga when asked if the players made a conscious effort to win Wednesday night’s game for Guiao. “Pangit naman if mangyari pa yun sa kanya. Pag natalo pa kami sa series na ‘to masyado ng masakit para sa kanya.”

“Ito yung sinasabi namin na doble bukol para sa kanya if matalo pa kami.”

Rain or Shine delivered as they put on a shooting clinic, setting a record-tying mark for the most 3-pointers made in a Finals game with 15 in the 112-108 win over Alaska.

Guiao, though, didn’t want his political career to intervene with his job as head coach, stressing that he has already moved on from his failed bid.

“Wala naman sa akin yun. It’s not part of my consciousness,” Guiao told reporters on whether his team’s victory eased off the pain after missing out on a seat in Congress. “They (players) are not involved in that aspect. Wala, hindi siya factor.”
