Pampanga slips past Davao in Cloudfone Batang PBA national finals

Mark Adrian Mallari nailed a buzzer-beater 3-point shot Monday to lift Pampanga past Davao, 88-85, in Day 2 of the national finals of the 2016 Cloudfone-Batang PBA 16& Under championship at the Philippine Science High School gym in Quezon City.

The Pampangos, led by Mallari’s 23 points and Justine Dale Bondoc’s 23, trailed, 68-63, going to the fourth quarter but rallied in the last five minutes to tie the game, 85-all. They gained possession with 1.3 seconds remaining and went to their hottest player who delivered as time expired.

In other games, provincial qualifiers had a field day putting to shame Metro Manila champions Meralco and San Miguel Beer.

FEATURED STORIES

Iloilo crushed the Batang Bolts, 127-90, as Ralph Bajon fired 24 points, Ryan Calama-an 22 and Franc Steven Tono 21 points, with the Ilongos roaring to a 40-11 first quarter advantage.

Meanwhile, Laguna, behind Angelo Alanguilan with 17 points and Marc Defante with 13, dumped the Batang Beermen, 108-63, breaking the game open at halftime, 42-28.
