Phoenix fails to get former Kentucky U standout as import

The Phoenix Fuel Masters have failed to seal a deal with DeAndre Liggins and thus remain without a regular import for the PBA Governors Cup that fires off on July 15.
“We still don’t have an import as Liggins said ‘no,’” said new Phoenix coach Ariel Vanguardia on their failed bid to bring over to their camp the standout from Kentucky U who played three years in the NBA.
But even as they are still in search of a regular import with a height cap of 6-foot-5, the Fuel Masters have started training under Vanguardia.
Already in town and having reported to the Phoenix camp is Asian import Lee Kwan Hee from Korea.
Lee, mainstay of the Samsung Thunders in the KBL, is reinforcing a Phoenix team with a new coach and several new players in their second conference in local pro play.
Debuting in Phoenix uniform in the coming tourney are Mark Cruz, Norbert Torres, Simon Enciso, Prince Caperal, Jonathan Uyloan, Mark Borboran and John Wilson.
Wilson was the Jose Rizal U Heavy Bombers’ main man in the NCAA under Vanguardia.
The Fuel Masters had an auspicious PBA debut versus the NLEX Road Warriors on Feb. 17 but then limped to a woeful 3-8 finish in the Commissioner’s Cup under coach Koy Banal.
