With both teams trying to establish momentum for the upcoming PBA Governors’ Cup, it was Star that halted the advance of NLEX, 81-75, in a tune-up game last Saturday at Ronac Basketball Court.

Hotshots’ top scorer Marqus Blakely banked 18 points, while wingman Allein Maliksi added 13 to the board.

“We gotta be disciplined on defense. The problem is gonna be stopping people [from scoring] consistently, and being able to get the rebound and run,” said Blakely.

“At portions of the game, we treated it as a practice game. We just wanna see what Marqus can give us and how he can help us improve,” said head coach Jason Webb.

Webb also touched on Blakely’s strengths, saying that he is a vital presence on the defensive end.

“The little things are the ones that get you to the championships like the semis, quarterfinals, and eliminations,” said Blakely. Mikaela Calilong/Philippine Daily Inquirer trainee
