Fresh off its confidence building win against Rain or Shine, Meralco shoots for a streak on Sunday when it battles cellar-dwelling GlobalPort in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup at Mall of Asia Arena.

The All-Star break truly did the Bolts good as it allowed Allen Durham to rekindle his flame and deliver in their 109-102 victory over the Elasto Painters last Wednesday.

“We never thought about replacing him,” said Black of his import. “He lacked aggressiveness, but he was very aggressive right from the start of the game, penetrating to the basket and getting offensive rebounds. That really made a difference as far as our starters is concerned.”

Durham’s infectious energy rubbed off to his teammates, allowing Meralco to establish a huge lead Rain or Shine could no longer recover from.

Black also garnered huge contributions from Chris Newsome, Cliff Hodge, and surprise starter Bryan Faundo as the Bolts eye to continue their ascent to the top of the standings at 4:30 p.m.

However, it’s still yet to be seen what the break did for the 0-4 Batang Pier.

Impressing stints in the All-Star Weekend may have done great things for Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle as they focus on nabbing the team’s first victory this conference.

But for import Mike Glover, it’s a matter of GlobalPort understanding the essence of playing defense coupled with its already mercurial offense.

“We have to play better defense,” he said. “That’s the key of winning games, winning in the playoffs. If we want to make the playoffs, we have to play defense and get rebounds.”

GlobalPort is coming from a two-week break, with its last game being the 120-107 defeat to Phoenix in Eugene Phelps’ 52-point debut game.
