Meralco tries to seal playoff vs struggling star
Meralco takes a second shot at formalizing entry into the playoffs while Star tries to save whatever is there to save in a critical matchup in the PBA Governors Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Sunday.
The Bolts also try to keep hopes for a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals as they slug it out with the embattled Star squad at 6:45 p.m.
Coach Norman Black and his troops stayed at fifth place with a 5-4 slate after dropping a 106-110 loss versus the San Miguel Beermen Wednesday night at the Big Dome.
They have to win their last two games against the Hotshots and the Mahindra Enforcers to get a shot at the Top Four and the twice-to-beat reward in the quarters.
At 1-7, the Hotshots are in direr strait, virtually having one foot in the grave already.
They have to sweep their last three games against the Bolts, the TNT KaTropa Texters and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to just get a chance at salvaging a quarters slot.
The Hotshots are now in their worst slump in a tourney in 11 years.
And after a fifth loss in a row at the hands of the Phoenix Fuel Masters Friday, the Hotshots are now in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in 16 conferences.
Suddenly, W’s are so hard to come by for the Hotshots, who are former grand slam champs.
“Ang hirap. Hindi na namin makuha,” said Star forward Marc Pingris. “Kung yung mga fans hindi sanay na talunan kami, kami rin hindi sanay.”
