Compared to past draft classes where Fil-foreign took the spotlight, there are only a few names that have cropped up in this year’s PBA Rookie Draft.

One of them is the 27-year-old Rashawn McCarthy, who turned heads in the two-day Draft Combine as he made good impressions on coaches and scouts.

“I feel like I represented myself well against some of the top amateur players in the draft class. I think I did well,” he said.

Against fellow famed aspirants, the New York native showed his potential which could land him in the first round of the 2016 PBA Rookie Draft.

FEATURED STORIES

McCarthy hopes to follow the footsteps of guys like Mo Tautuaa and Justin Melton, friends he played alongside with in the Asean Basketball League, as he tries to stake his claim in the PBA.

“They told me to work hard and stay patient. Opportunities don’t come right away so I just have to stay ready and wait for my turn,” he said.

Known as an energy guy during his days with AMA Online Education and Racal in the PBA D-League, McCarthy is expected to play a combo-guard role that could intrigue a lot of teams.

“I have no expectations,” McCarthy said. “I try to come here and take it as it is. Whatever happens happens and I’ll be happy with whatever the result is.”
