Kevin Alas rues his subpar showing in latest NLEX loss
Struggling to find his rhythm, Kevin Alas would rather forget his off-beat performance Wednesday night.
The NLEX playmaker shot just 1-of-11 in 20 minutes of play and the Road Warriors fell to their third straight loss, 85-96, against the Blackwater Elite.
“I was struggling, and I’m not making the shots I was supposed to be making.” said the visibly disappointed Alas in the aftermath of another heart-breaker. He finished with four points, two boards, eight assists and a turnover.
“We’re still not at the level na gusto namin. Sabi nga ni coach Yeng (Guiao), we’re number 1 in terms of turnovers,” he said as NLEX committed a horrendous 24 turnovers against the Elite.
Trailing by as much 13 points at the start of the final quarter, NLEX had its last hurrah when Alas drove hard to the basket to spark an 8-2 run that pulled the Road Warriors within 72-79 with 9:14 minutes to go.
But the Elite dashed whatever hopes the Road Warriors entertained to turnaround the game by scoring eight straight points that practically sealed the outcome.
During their post-game huddle, Alas said Guiao emphasized their poor defense and inability to play smart as reason for their continuous struggle.
“We really have to be patient and continue to work hard every game. Kailangan din namin i-improve yung chemistry and minimize our turnovers,” Alas said.
