PINEDA MULLS PBA D-LEAGUE STINT

When the PBA office returns to business mode, a flamboyant visitor could drop by for a little chat with top brass.

In an interview with Frost Byte, former San Sebastian Stags benefactor Dennis Pineda bared that he will meet with Commissioner Chito Salud to map out plans for a PBA D-League team application.

Before the Christmas break, Pineda confirmed his amicable separation with San Sebastian, an NCAA team he financially backed the past 5 years.

“Gusto ko magtayo ng team sa D-League. Andami kong players eh. Kailangan mabigyan sila ng lalaruan,” said Pineda, who also helped in the career of PBA superstars Arwind Santos and Calvin Abueva.

The former Lubao, Pampanga Mayor, now running for the province’s Vice Gubernatorial post, has been in talks with pioneer D-League team, Erase Plantcenta.

“Kapampangan rin kasi yung may-ari nun. Nag-usap na kami dati. Pero try ko mag-inquire sa PBA kung paano ang bumuo ng bagong prangkisa,” he said.

Pineda can most definitely form a formidable lineup with a stable that boasts of potential impact players like Dexter Marquez and Michael Miranda, alongside San Sebastian’s key players in Team B, said to also have the a version 2 of the “Pinatubo Trio” – the triumvirate of Pampanguenos Sangalang, Ronald Pascual and now PBA rookie sensantion Abueva, all discoveries of Pineda.

The well-known basketball patron, however, is conceding his top player Sangalang, who is a already a core member of perennial D-League champions NLEX Road Warriors.

“Hayaan na natin siguro si Ian sa NLEX, established na siya dun. Nakakahiya naman na guluhin pa siya run,” concluded “Delta,” son of Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda.

Maintaining a team in the PBA D-League will require paying a P500,000 participation fee per conference, while affiliates of existing PBA teams need only to pay half the amount.

Maximum pay for each player is pegged at 30K a month.
