The status of Japeth Aguilar’s injury remains a mystery until noted ortho-surgeon Raul Canlas gives his assessment on the result of the MRI scan done on the 6-9 behemoth late Friday night.

The Gilas Pilipinas high flyer had an awkward fall while attempting a baseline dunk during the early goings of the Barangay Ginebra-Barako Bull match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

PBA doctor Ronald Calma initially diagnosed the injury as a sprained right MCL, but Aguilar’s agent Marvin Espiritu claimed he has seen positive developments.

“Hindi naman hirap lumakad. Kasi mula dug-out hanggang sa parking lot… ang layo nun. Nakalakad pa siya,” said Espiritu. “Hindi siya nangailangan ng aakay sa kanya.”

“Nung unang bagsak lang, dun lang talaga siya hirap.”

Espiritu in fact told pba.ph how Aguilar still wanted to return to the court and play.

“Kaso pinigilan na siya ni Gomer (Go), yung therapist ng Ginebra,” said the second generation player agent.

Matthew Manotoc, Espiritu’s partner, shared how his ward was able to walk around Makati Medical Center while waiting for his MRI scan.

“I hope it’s nothing serious. Because Japeth is optimistic that the injury will not deprive him of playing  in Ginebra’s next games,” said Manotoc.

“We all just have to stay positive and hope for the best,” he added. (SBadua)
