ABUEVA-DILLINGER INCIDENT TO BE REVIEWED MONDAY
Following the heated game between the Meralco Bolts and the Alaska Aces last Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, PBA commissioner Chito Salud has issued a statement regarding the incident, which centered on the tussle involving the Aces’ Calvin Abueva and the Bolts’ Jared Dillinger.
Abueva rejected Dillinger’s drive at the 10:09 mark of the fourth quarter. The two then found themselves entangled, eventually crashing on the cushioned baseline railing where the scuffle happened.
They were both assessed technical fouls.
“I will review the incident in my office first thing on Monday and make a determination as to the sufficiency of the technical fouls assessed against both players for their actuations,” Salud said.
He added: “If the penalties given on court are found to be proportionate to the acts in question, then I will consider the matter closed. Otherwise, I will invite the players involved to hear their side and thereafter mete out the commensurate sanctions.”
After the incident, Alaska team owner Fred Uytengsu was seen to approach commissioner Salud to question the call, claiming that Dillinger should have been ejected for choking Abueva.
Salud clarified that the former “wanted some clarification on the incident.”
“As a matter of course, I conduct my reviews in the office and I assured him that I will do so,” he added.
