DEFENSE WILL BE KEY FOR BOOSTERS
With Petron Blaze set to face Rain or Shine in a best-of-seven semifinals series in the 2014 PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup, Boosters swingman Chris Lutz believes that its going to be a tough draw facing the highly physical E-Painters.
“Its going to be tough against Rain or Shine. They’re on a good roll right now (with their eight-game winning streak), so we just have to do well on our pick-and-roll defense because they have a lot of shooters. We have to put a lot of bodies on them,” he said.
With their elimination games result split between the two teams, not to mention highly contested and down-the-wire, Lutz believes only one thing can get them past Rain or Shine.
“Just our defense,” he said.
Lutz added, “Both teams play well together. We don’t care who is the leading scorer for the team, and we like to give the extra passes. That’s huge and that’s why I think both teams are in the semifinals.”
Pressed if there is any distinct advantage for Petron in the series, the former Gilas standout just said, “Besides June Mar Fajardo?”
“They’re playing so well. They got a deep bench, and we also have a deep bench. They got scorers and everything, and that’s same with us,” Lutz said. “But hopefully, we can score better in the post than they can.”
It seems like the battle will be won nowhere else but in the paint, where the Kraken will tangle with the Extra Rice Inc. (RL)
