PACQUIAO IS KIA’S GUY IN ROOKIE DRAFT
KIA assistant coach Glenn Capacio admits that the team has no other target in the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft, slated on August 24 at the Robinsons Midtown Atrium, other than Manny Pacquiao.
The eight-division boxing world champion, who is also acting as KIA’s head coach, has thrown his hat in the pool of Draft hopefuls, and will try his mettle against the other young studs.
“We’ll take Manny Pacquiao in the first round,” Capacio said.
KIA is slated to select at No. 11.
“Si Manny, kailangang dumaan sa Draft, so syempre sa first round, sya na ang kukunin namin,” Capacio added.
Capacio admitted that the concessions given their squad affected this decision, as the team now shifts its focus on getting a potent team through free agents and unsigned veterans, rather than focus on the incoming young standouts.
“Wala na kaming inaasahan sa draft kasi ang next namin is sa 22nd pa. Ano na makukuha mo dun? Mga tinga na lang,” he said.
The PBA Board has given KIA and Blackwater all picks after the second round to select other standouts.
KIA team manager Eric Pineda also believes that the other 11 teams would not touch Pacquiao, given that the reigning WBO welterweight champ,a man of many hats, is already a part of the squad.
“I hope the other teams understand that Manny is already the coach of KIA, and hopefully, they would not pick him,” he said. (RL)
